Long Time, No Post.

I haven't done a post in a very long time! I have been very busy enjoying the sun, moving back from uni, starting my new job and travelling back and forth from visiting my boyfriend! I have no new photographs for the time being although I will by next week. I also have a few new posts up my sleeve for showing off some more photographs still from my first year of uni - which I passed with a 2:1!!! yay!!

Just thought I'd add in this photograph from a trip to Blackpool that me and my boyfriend made a couple of months ago. It was just a spontaneous shot but I really love it :)

Let Them Eat Cake

Photo of the Day

Emma Watson by Rankin

I really love Rankin's work, he has inspired me to do many projects. The reason this I chose this image to be image of the day is because firstly, I think Emma Watson is beautiful and has come lightyears since her starting role in the first Harry Potter. I'm not a fan of the Harry Potter books/films/anything but I am a fan of herrrrr! I love the fact that she has modelled for Burberry, etc.
Secondly, I just love the photograph in general. I believe Rankin is an actual genius in portraiture photography and can really bring out people's personality and beauty. The way he has lit the image, only lighting her right side, the side with her eye on show, highlighting her intense stare really captivates the viewer.
Pure Genius.

I haven't done portraiture in a while as I seem to have taken a different path so far this year but I'm sure over summer when I get back home, I will be taking many beautiful photographs of my beautiful friends. They are very photogenic, be prepared. However, here is an old favourite of mine for my own photo of the day:

This image I took about a year ago. My friend created the headpiece out of paper and cupcake holders. It was inspired by Marie Antoinette; the model is a friend, Elena (who is very beautiful as you can see).
I just thought I'd share this image as I've been looking through some of my older pre-uni pieces of work and found this little beauty. I love it.

Hope you like them, let me know what you think.

Sunday 2 May 2010

Took a trip to a park near where I live yesterday. Turned in to quite a trekk;
the park is massive, then we found Preston football ground (which really is not that interesting) and walked back a different way when it started raining which turned in our favour because we went in this amazing ice cream parlour which had all 60's stools and mirrors everywhere!
Its called Milkylane if you want to google it :)
Anyway here are a few pictures. Preston isn't that interesting for photographs so..

Here we are in Milkylane. My boyfriend had a chocolate explosion - which looked a m a z i n g - and I had something called Rainbow, which you can't see there was actually all different colours and had smarties in it. Beautiful ♥

A little bit of a short post, I'll do another one later.

Wednesday 28 April 2010

Thought I'd post some things that I've been interested in lately if you care to take a look;

"The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destination"
Don Williams Jnr.

In the currently issue of Flux Magazine, there is an article on a project by Roderik Henderson called 'The Road' which I thought was really interesting. I actually wrote a review on it for an assignment. Basically, Henderson travelled America photographing people in their cars as they travelled somewhere.
Some people he photographed actually lived in their cars. Ultimately though, he wanted to photograph people "caught somewhere between departure and destination". I thought it was really interesting, especially when he talks about some of the people he met. Its only a short article but I really love projects like this! I think you should take a look! :)

Another project that I love is 'Ice 4 Milk' by Francis Alys. I saw this at the Tate Liverpool a couple of weeks ago. It should still be there. Alys documents Milk delivered to people's doors. Its pretty much a typology project which I love! She also photographs Ice blocks in different places (I didn't really get that bit?) however the milk aspect is really interesting. I have just completed a typology assignment that I did over about 3 months, I also published a book on it. I shall do a post about it later. Its on the really exciting theme of GATES;)

Anyway, check them out. I am currently looking for somewhere to sell my camera, I want a new one :)

Studium

One thing I have done this year is work in the studio.
This project is simply about creating images that could be considered 'Dynamic' and 'Sinister'.
First thing I did was look up those words.

In this first photograph I just tried to convey a clean cut and energetic look. I was inspired by Sam Taylor Wood's photography (Kick Ass Aaron Johnson's fiance!). Used a large lightbox and beauty dish to get even lighting and angled the beauty dish slightly to the left to create the slight shadow behind her. I don't really know what I'm doing with the lighting, but it's fun to mess around and see what you can create :)

This 'sinister' image was inspired by today's youth culture. The intimidating way some (not all!) young people are trying to convey themselves these days; especially the way they use their hoods to hide/disguise their identity. Pretty much thought of this whilst watching Harry Brown. Good film.
For this image I used a small lightbox, dimly lit and the 'snoot' (ha!) which was positioned above him
pointing down to create the shadow on his face.

The moody facial expression = real. It was like 9am.

Anyway, in between waiting for models to arrive, we had some fun
with the beasty tripod they had in there and self timer..
